TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorders) may be just mild, but annoying, clicking in the jaw. However, these disorders can often cause greater problems such as earaches, headaches, difficulty sleeping and swallowing, and many other chronic problems.
The treatments I offer start with an investigation of the problem and a palpation assessment. This is usually followed by massage of the jaw, neck and shoulders and the treatment of trigger points.
It is normal with TMJ disorders that the muscles in the neck and jaw will have reacted to compensate for the problems. Consequently the muscles are usually very tight. For this reason the treatment usually requires several sessions on a weekly basis to bring the muscles back to their normal mode.
My treatments can help with the whole range of painful conditions that affect the jaw and neck. If you have these problems I will be glad to plan a treatment to meet your needs.
Below is a testimonial from one of my patients.
“I have been suffering from TMD for some time, which caused me very bad headaches, some of which lasted for two days. My first session with Carol was in July of this year, two days later I had a complete knee replacement operation, which meant that I didn’t see Carol for about 8 or 9 weeks, but in that time, despite the trauma of the operation I had only one headache, also I have been able to eat several foods which I couldn’t manage before. The TMJ was probably caused by severe depression and anxiety, causing me to grind my teeth – however the depression and anxiety also have lifted somewhat making my life easier all round. Carol herself is a very calm and competent person, and I recommend her very highly to anyone suffering from TMD.”
